Stair Walking Workout - Accessible to All

The easiest and simplest Who Needs a Gym workouts are accessible to ALL - anybody can walk up stairs of any age or fitness level. Even if you can only walk up ONE step - do it! Do it once, then step down and do it again! Do multiple reps like that until you are tired or your joints are sore. But ANYBODY and I mean ANYBODY who can walk, can walk up stairs!

The Building I live in

I have been meaning to do this one for a while. I live in the apartment shown in the picture above. In all there are 18 floors, which means 17 flights of stairs (1F here is on the ground floor). Each flight has 15 stairs so one complete set is (from 1st to 18th floor) 255 stairs. I did 6 sets so completely 102 flights of stairs or 1,530 stairs climbed. Workout is summarized below:

Round 1 ~ Round 6
  • 17 flights of stairs or 255 stairs
  • Rest on the elevator going down
  • Total Time: 27 min 30 seconds

So its up to you now. If you live in a tall building with an elevator great! Easy to do. If you have to walk up and down your stairs, consider it part of the exercise. And take a rest when you get to the top or the bottom but break as needed

IF YOU CAN ONLY WALK UP 1 STAIR, then do as I said above, walk up one, then step back down. Repeat 10 times and do this everyday.

No time? Walk up the stairs to your office. Or, when you go home walk up the stairs. Just start moving! This type of workout is great. I felt it in my legs and also felt my heart pumping so it gives you (and me) a good workout.

Good luck and let me know how you do.

  1. Tougher when summer is in full swing.

By the way, why didn't you walk back down?

    1. Yes, agreed, the stairwell becomes a sweatshop.

I don't think there is a benefit walking down and to jarring on the joints - also need to take a rest at some point so the elevator ride provided that. I think there is a lot more benefit going up (I might be wrong) so wanted to focus on that.

      Thanks for your comment.
